An excellent lens for street photography is the 35mm equivalent. A little wider than the standard 50mm, it gives you the ability to take more of an environmental portrait telling the story, instead of just showing the person.
In this case, the musician was playing the guitar horizontally and with his booming voice singing along.
I admire and respect, street musicians for their guts and lack of fear to perform in front of strangers. In addition to photos and videos, it is nice to actually stand and listen, giving the artist attention and of course dropping some change in appreciation.
