This image was from the last weekend of the Amsterdam Light Festival. The beautiful canals of Amsterdam have many different light sculptures in the water or hanging in the canal.
You can get two perspectives for the light festival. First in this case, I was walking near some prominent canals as the sun was starting to go down. Remember in the winter it gets dark very quickly.
Then earlier in the day, I booked a canal boat for the dusk time. From a tourist standpoint, it will be a beautiful ride and you will see all the light sculptures and hanging lights in the canal.
This exhibit was called “Talking Heads”
For those whom taking photos is very important, your smartphone will be pretty inadequate in dark light, so a camera with a prime lens and a wide aperture, would be your best bet.
The other challenge is most of the canal boats are enclosed during the winter and the reflections and windows will be big obstacles. So come early, wear a warm coat and get one of the few seats in the back with the open sky.
Either way enjoy this exciting art form.
