Last time I was in Tokyo, I had an opportunity to visit a Kimono factory, that specialized in making garments for the Kabuki theater.
The traditions of the garment and the processes of making them, are almost completely unchanged from centuries ago. Every step of the design and manufacturing process, is done by hand. The only computers I saw were for the back office and to keep a library of designs and costumes.
What is amazing in Japan, is the balance and contrast between the ultra modern and the maintenance of traditions and rituals. I look forward to returning soon.
